It is finally September, and that means it is Hispanic Heritage Month. Starting on Sept. 15 and lasting through Oct. 15, Americans celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors were from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The significance of Sept. 15 is that it is Independence Day in many Latin American countries. In New Jersey, Hispanics represent 18.5% of the population, which is a higher percentage than their representation in the entire U.S. (16.9%). A coastal state rich in diversity, New Jersey also has the seventh largest Hispanic population out of all fifty states.
We look forward to celebrating Hispanic heritage this month. As a tribute, CASA for Children will utilize our Facebook page to feature influential Hispanic people throughout history.
