Celebrate National Foster Care Month by getting involved with community agencies that help children and families.

09_CASA_185_HIDid you know that over 400,000 children nation-wide, 13,000 in New Jersey and over 1,000 children and youth in Atlantic and Cape May Counties live in foster care? Since May is National Foster Care Month, it is a great time to learn more about how you can help children living in foster care.

  • Help spread the word – write a letter to the editor, speak at your community group or get your church to hold a fundraising event for a local child welfare provider
  • Set up a scholarship fund for foster youth at your local community college or university
  • Advocate on behalf of youth and families in your community by becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer
  • Get involved and get your neighbors and friends involved too – your example will inspire others
  • Help local foster families in your community¬†by becoming a respite-care provider
  • Mentor or tutor a foster child through an organization like Big Brothers Big Sisters or the Boys and Girls Club
  • Become a foster parent/family
  • Adopt a child or children from foster care
